Prodigy P2

At iStudio Projects, our ETC Prodigy P2 is a low-profile, general purpose hoist engineered to deliver a simple and cost-effective solution for lifting scenery and curtains in schools, houses of worship, nightclubs, and other mid-sized venues where overhead access is limited or unavailable. Boasting the smallest footprint in its class, the P2’s ultra-low profile allows it to disappear seamlessly into the plenum — eliminating the need for ladders or scaffolding to install, service, or store overhead equipment. Powered by ETC’s revolutionary Prodigy Hybrid Drum, the P2 manages up to eight lift lines with 15 m (50 ft) of travel in a powerhead one-third the size of comparable hoists. Compatible with QuickTouch, QuickTouch+, and Foundation control systems, and built to ANSI/PLASA E1.6-1 standards, the Prodigy P2 delivers motorized safety, precision, and reliability to facilities that previously had none.

Product Description

Prodigy Low Profile General Purpose Hoists provide a simple, low- cost way to lift scenery or curtains for storage or for production. With the smallest space requirement in the industry, the P2 hoist is especially useful where an extremely low profile allows the hoist to disappear in the plenum. Medium-sized schools and other facilities can be equipped for movable scenery and drapes with the safety of motorized hoisting systems. These hoists resolve space and access challenges for schools, nightclubs, houses of worship or other places where there is no means to access scenery or drapes overhead. With motorized hoists, it will not be necessary to climb ladders or scaffolds to install or remove scenery or drapes. Instead, the motorized battens can be lowered to working level, allowing workers to easily install and service equipment that can be raised to performance or storage positions high above the stage floor.

Unique Prodigy Hybrid Drum: Powerhead manages up to eight lift lines with 50’ (15 m) of travel in a machine 1/3 the size of other hoists
• Uses 3/16 in (5 mm) wire rope to accomodate 420 lb (190 kg) working load limit (WLL) per lift line with a 10:1 design factor, and up to 650 lb (300 kg) total lifting capacity
• Lightweight and small-sized powerhead – 300 lb (135 kg) 45.5 in x 13.5 in x 15.5 in (116 cm x 35 cm x 39 cm)
• Limit switches and encoders: four rotary limit switches with visual setting indicators for more efficient installation
• Multiple mounting orientations: can be installed upright, underhung or vertically and utilize traditional upright or underhung head blocks and loft blocks
• Optional Compression Tube technology: channel snaps in place to interface with facility structure and neutralize additional lateral forces on the building.
• Load Profiling – a user-recordable dynamic function to detect over/under loading during travel
• Slack line detection – a slack lifting line will stop the hoist from downward travel
• Right Angle Cable Adjuster (RACA): permitting rapid trim adjustment, even under load, the unique trim clamp saves up to 14 in (36 cm) of building height and allows greater batten travel
• Designed for dynamic loading of 1.2 G
• Built to ANSI/PLASA motorized hoist standard E1.6-1
• EC MD 2006/42/EC, LVD 2014/35/EU, MCD 2014/30/EU
• UL Listed and CE Listed

  • Installation Orientation: The P2 can be installed upright, underhung, or as a vertical wall mount. Ensure the supporting structure can bear the combined weight of the hoist and the full working load.
  • Compression Tube (Optional): If using the optional Compression Tube, install a minimum of one beam clamp at the Powerhead and one per Compression Tube section, with a maximum spacing of 4.25 m (14 ft) on center. Compatible with W-, S-, or I-Beam, Bar Joist, and Unistrut structures.
  • Lift Line Placement: The first loft block must be positioned a minimum of 1200 mm (4 ft) from the Powerhead nose, or 25 mm (1 in) with an optional mule block. Minimum spacing between loft blocks is 1200 mm (4 ft). Maximum of 8 lift lines; maximum 7 if supporting Prodigy Cable Management systems.
  • Load Limits: Minimum load per lift line is 12 kg (25 lb); maximum is 190 kg (420 lb) per line. Total lifting capacity is 300 kg (650 lb). Do not exceed these limits under any circumstances.
  • Speed: The P2 operates at a fixed speed of 7.2 m/min (25 fpm) at both 208 V and 480 V, 60 Hz.
  • Control Connection: Connect to the QuickTouch+, QuickTouch Preset, or Foundation HD control system via Power and Control Distribution boxes or raceways using a 50 ft (15 m) umbilical cable. All control wiring must be Cat5e or better.
  • E-Stop: Each hoist includes a dedicated hardwired E-stop contactor. Up to 3 remote E-stop stations can be connected per run.
  • Manual Override: Local up/down controls and limit overrides are located on the rear of the hoist and can be used in the event that remote control is unavailable.
  • Safety Systems: Redundant load arresting (self-sustaining gearbox + motor brake), rotary limit switches, slack line detection, load cell monitoring, load profiling, and overcurrent protection are all active during operation and must not be disabled.
  • RACA Trim Adjustment: Use the Right Angle Cable Adjuster (RACA) clamp for rapid fine trim adjustments, even under load. This saves up to 14 in (36 cm) of required building height.
  • Environmental Limits: Motor operating temperature range is 4.5°C to 40°C (40°F to 104°F). Operate within this range at all times.
