Prodigy P1

At iStudio Projects, our ETC Prodigy P1 is a low-profile hoist engineered to deliver simple, reliable, and high-performance lifting solutions for stage electrics, scenery, and curtains across setup, storage, and live performance environments. Featuring the revolutionary Prodigy Hybrid Drum — capable of managing up to eight lift lines with 15 m (50 ft) of travel in a machine one-third the size of comparable hoists — the P1 dramatically reduces space and structural requirements for stage rigging systems. Available in both fixed speed and variable speed configurations, the Prodigy P1 integrates seamlessly with ETC’s Foundation, QuickTouch+, and QuickTouch Preset control systems, giving directors and designers full artistic control over every movement. Lightweight, low-noise, and packed with built-in safety features, the Prodigy P1 is the ideal rigging solution for theatres, performance venues, and institutional stages of all sizes.

Product Description

Prodigy P1 hoists provide a simple, low-profile way to manipulate stage electrics, scenery, and curtains for setup, storage, and performance. The innovative technologies in Prodigy hoists reduce the space and structure requirements for stage rigging systems. Fixed speed P1 hoists resolve access challenges to setting up lighting plots and masking drapes by eliminating the need to climb ladders or scaffolds. Instead, battens can be conveniently lowered to any working level, allowing easy access for changing, servicing, and moving items that can then be raised to performance or storage positions high above the stage floor. Variable speed P1 hoists can raise and lower main drapes and scenery elements as quickly as 55m/min (180 fpm). Combined with ETC’s powerful and intuitive Foundation control system, Prodigy hoists give directors and designers artistic access to the potential of your space.

The revolutionary Prodigy Hybrid Drum manages up to eight lift lines with 15 m (50 ft) of travel in a machine 1/3 the size of comparable hoists

  • Hoists can be installed upright, underhung or vertically (EXO only) and support use with traditional upright or underhung head blocks and loft blocks
  • Available soft start/stop models reduce the structural stress of moving large loads
  • Compression Tube snaps in place to interface with facility structure and neutralize additional lateral forces on the building
  • The unique Right Angle Cable Adjuster (RACA) clamp permits rapid fine trim adjustment under load, and saves up to 360 mm (14 in) of required dead hang in building height
  • Motor control electronics are included in the hoist Powerhead, no separate motor control cabinet required
  • Safety Features Supplied as Standard: – Redundant braking – Load cells – Load profiling – Automated self-test – Slack line detection – Limit switches
  • Installation Orientation: Hoists can be installed upright, underhung, or vertically (EXO models only). Ensure the supporting structure is rated for the combined weight of the hoist, control boxes, and the full working load.
  • Compression Tube Mounting: Install a minimum of one beam clamp at the Powerhead plus one per section of Compression Tube. Maximum beam clamp spacing is 4.3 m (14 ft) on center. Compatible with W-, S-, or I-Beam, Bar Joist, and Unistrut structures.
  • Lift Line Placement: The first loft block must be positioned a minimum of 1200 mm (4 ft) from the Powerhead nose, or 25 mm (1 in) with an optional mule block. Minimum spacing between loft blocks is 1200 mm (4 ft). Maximum of 8 lift lines per hoist; maximum 7 if supporting Prodigy Cable Management systems.
  • Load Limits: Minimum load per lift line is 12 kg (25 lb); maximum is 190 kg (420 lb) per line. Overall hoist Working Load Limit (WLL) ranges from 360–900 kg (900–2,000 lb) depending on model.
  • Speed Settings: Fixed speed models operate at 10 m/min (30 fpm). Variable speed models (V-series) operate from 0–55 m/min (0–180 fpm).
  • Control Wiring: All control wiring must be Cat5e or better. Connect to the appropriate control system — QuickTouch+, QuickTouch Preset, or Foundation HD — via Power and Control Distribution boxes or raceways using a 50 ft (15 m) umbilical cable.
  • E-Stop: Each hoist includes a dedicated hardwired E-stop contactor. Up to 3 remote E-stop stations can be connected per run.
  • Safety Systems: The dual braking system (motor brake + redundant mechanical brake), rotary limit switches, slack line detection, load cell monitoring, load profiling, and overcurrent protection are all active during operation and should not be bypassed or disabled.
  • Environmental Limits: Motor operating temperature range is 5°C to 40°C (41°F to 104°F). Operate within this range at all times.
  • Soft Start/Stop: Where structural stress is a concern, use available soft start/stop models to reduce dynamic loading on the building during hoist movement.
